Ciao Italia!

Ciao Italia!
Part of our Summer Travels open call and exhibition.
Italy is a favourite travel destination with its beautiful scenery, food and atmosphere for many of us. It's also a must-be summer location for birds too!
My piece welcomes back the summer, signaled by the return of its migrant swifts who return from Africa to Europe for their breeding season. The swifts fly for thousands of miles to enjoy the countries warm, long days that provide a plentiful supply of insects- which they feed to their chicks.
Spending their whole life in the air, swifts also use the same nesting sites, often in old cracks in buildings. During the start of summer you can hear these amazing birds screeching above, swopping around catching bugs. To me, they are a big part of that wonderful summer atmosphere, depicted here on the stunning Amalfi coast. It wouldn't be summer without them!'
