If Our Pets Could Talk…
Create a comic strip starring your cat, dog, fish or reptile!
Comic artist and former City Illustrator of Amsterdam Maia Matches invites you to roll up your sleeves and participate in the creation of a riso zine inspired by a timeless question: If our pets could talk… What would they say?
In this workshop you’ll learn how to create a short comic strip with your pet as the main character. In just 3 or 4 panels we’ll imagine the secret life of our animal companions because let’s face it - they have opinions. Now it’s time to put them on paper!
You’ll also be introduced to the magical world of riso printing, a sustainable stencil-printing technique that allows you to produce striking prints with vibrant colours. At the end of the workshop, participants will take home a bundled zine of our unique comic strips!
Whether you’re a seasoned comic enthusiast or simply curious about risograph printing, all levels are welcome to join.
This workshop is intended for adults.
After finalizing our comic strip, we’ll dive into the world of risograph printing: you’ll learn how to prepare your strip for printing using two colours on the risograph. At the end of the workshop, everyone takes home a copy of our freshly printed bundle of comics!

Who is Maia Matches?
Maia Matches is a Toronto-born underground artist based in the Netherlands, creating satire and journalistic drawings on social issues.
She was Amsterdam’s City Illustrator in 2019, and is currently working on an upcoming graphic novel that takes place in apartheid South Africa. Her signature character, BITCH, embodies her bold style and feminist values.
