Colour Mixing Course!
Are you looking to take your Riso designs to the next level? Our master colour mixing course is just what you need! We’ll dive into the fundamentals of Risograph printing: working with colour.
Across four Saturday mornings, we will explore the specifics of Riso ink and how to mix colours effectively. You'll also learn the key factors to consider when designing for Riso printing, helping you achieve the results you envision.
But this course isn’t just about theory: you’ll also get hands-on experience through a series of assignments that put your new knowledge into practice. By the end of the course, you’ll have printed multiple works using the techniques you’ve learned, giving you the confidence to take on even more ambitious projects.
How is the course set up?
To make the most of our colour mixing course, participants should come prepared with either an iPad with drawing software or a laptop with Photoshop (or another program that they feel comfortable using). Before the course starts, we'll provide you with information on how to prepare and get ready, so you can feel confident and ready to dive in from day one.
Riso inks & Colour Theory
The workshop begins with an overview of the Risograph printer and its inks, including what to keep in mind when printing with multiple colours and how to achieve the results you want.
We will go deep into colour mixing: exploring Riso ink characteristics, experimenting with different printing orders (light to dark and vice versa).
Next, we’ll dive into colour charts so you can create your own custom references.
You'll also see a demo on preparing digital files, including working with gradients and other helpful tips and tricks. And last but not least, we will be introducing CMYK Riso printing.
You’ll receive an assignment and handouts that allow you to continue experimenting at home with images of your choosing.
Personal Project: In the second part of the course, you will get to print your own project using the techniques you’ve learned.
Why this course?
At Riso Pop, we're known for our one-off workshops that provide a great introduction to risograph printing. However, we wanted to offer something more – a longer course that allows for a more intimate and hands-on approach to the printing experience. That's why we're excited to offer our master colour mixing course.
As an illustrator myself, I know that colour is key and it can make or break an illustration. And when using riso, we are even more constrained to the colours provided to us. During this two day course, you'll learn about the fundamentals of colour mixing theory and how to create balanced, visually striking riso prints.
By spending more time at the studio, you'll have the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the printing experience and receive personalized feedback on your work.
This is also why this will be a small course with max 6 participants.
