Turn autumn’s plants, textures and colours into playful Riso prints!

As summer fades and autumn arrives, we’re celebrating the changing season with our Botanical Riso Workshop. We’ll gather inspiration from the natural world and explore how plants, drawings and colour can come together through the magic of Risograph printing.

This workshop is all about collecting, experimenting and layering:

Forage & Collect
We’ll gather leaves, plants and interesting textures to use as inspiration and experiment with scanning them directly onto the Riso printer.

Draw & Interpret
Use your botanical finds as a starting point for simple drawings, shapes, patterns and textures. No drawing experience needed! These exercises are all about looking, playing and experimenting.

Play with Colour & Layers
Discover what happens when different Riso colours overlap. We’ll experiment with colour combinations, transparencies and layering to create unexpected colours, textures and effects.

Build & Print
Bring your botanical finds and drawings together into a unique composition, then learn how to prepare and print your artwork layer by layer on the Riso machine.

You’ll leave with your own colourful botanical Riso print, and lots of new ideas for combining plants, drawing, colour and layers in your own Riso work.

What to expect?

At the studio, we’ll start with an introduction to the RISO printer and how it works, followed by a few quick experiments to see how different materials, textures and drawings translate into Riso.

From there, we’ll explore our botanical finds and use them as inspiration for simple drawings, shapes and textures. Through a series of guided exercises, you’ll experiment with different ways of interpreting plants and turning them into printable layers.

Then it’s time to bring everything together! You’ll create your own composition and explore how three Riso colours can interact through layering and overlaps. We’ll experiment with different colour combinations and see how new colours and textures appear when the inks meet.

You’ll then print your final botanical-inspired design in three colours and take up to 15 copies home: perfect for sharing, framing or simply enjoying your experiments.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced artist, this workshop is a playful introduction to botanical-inspired Riso printing.

All materials are provided, including paper, drawing materials and RISO printing supplies. Just bring yourself, your curiosity and a love of plants!
