As the end of October draws near, in Mexico, my beloved homeland, preparations for the grand celebration of the Day of the Dead are on their way! It's a joyous occasion where families come together to honor the memory of their departed loved ones and to revel in the beauty of life. Rest assured, it's a celebration of love and remembrance!
Join us this Wednesday evening to delve into the heartwarming traditions of this festival and craft your unique tribute to those we hold dear. This workshop offers an introduction to Risograph printing and zine-making.
What to expect?
During this evening you will get an introduction to the Die de los Muertos festivity, the tradition of remembering and celebrating loved ones and the symbolisms behind the ofrendas.
Using this as inspiration you’ll choose someone you would like to honour: this can be a family member, friend, loved one, or even a beloved pet or public figure that inspired you.
Using drawing, collage, photographs and other analogue techniques, you’ll create a personal tribute page inspired by them. Think of memories, favourite things, foods, flowers, objects, sayings or little details that remind you of who they were.
You will also learn how the risogrpah printer works and will be creating a design on A4 with two colours.
Finally, we’ll bring everyone’s pages together into a collective Riso-printed publication, creating a shared celebration of the people and companions we carry with us.
Come and celebrate this Mexican tradition with us!
