Cyanotype Meets Riso! – Weekend Workshop

  • Riso Pop Maasstraat 182 1079BL Amsterdam Netherlands (map)

Join us for two creative and hands-on days where we’ll combine the dreamy blues of cyanotype with the bold colors of Risograph printing. This weekend is all about exploring, experimenting, and layering techniques to create your own unique set of prints.

How does the workshop look like?

Day 1 – Learning & Exploring Cyanotype

We begin the workshop by diving into the basics of cyanotype, a photographic printing process that uses sunlight to create striking blue images. You’ll learn how to mix and apply the cyanotype solution, prepare your paper, and arrange a variety of materials to create photograms.

  • Start with a group test print using different objects—plants, lace, netting, and more—to see how they translate in cyanotype.

  • Experiment with both smooth and textured watercolor paper to see how different surfaces affect the final result.

  • Once you've gotten the hang of it, you’ll coat your own batch of paper, let it dry, and spend the rest of the day printing your own compositions using sunlight.

  • By the end of the day, you’ll have created a small series of your own cyanotype prints, each one unique.

Day 2 – mixing with Riso

On the second day, we’ll take your cyanotype prints into the world of Risograph printing. You’ll learn the basics of how Riso works—how to prepare files, choose colors, and experiment with overlays—and discover how beautifully the two techniques can complement each other.

  • Scan your favorite cyanotype prints and turn them into Riso-ready files.

  • Print them in one or two Riso colors—either as standalone reinterpretations or as layered compositions over your original work.

  • Explore more advanced tools, such as digital manipulation (in apps like Procreate), to invert your images, overlay textures, or isolate certain elements for color treatment.

  • Play with cutting, collaging, and combining printed elements to build new visuals from your cyanotypes.

You’ll leave with a vibrant collection of prints that blend two unique printing worlds—and plenty of inspiration to keep exploring beyond the workshop.

Who is Eva Polakovicova?

Eva is an illustrator, designer, and artist based in The Hague, known for her evocative Risograph prints and beautifully composed book covers—especially for poetry. Her work is deeply inspired by nature in all its forms, from the delicate patterns of lichens and seaweed to sweeping, mountainous coastlines and shifting skies. Using bold colour palettes—often in shades of blue and red—and rich, almost-tactile textures, Eva creates imagery that captures emotion and atmosphere.

Her artistic universe is filled with rolling hills, birds, cloudy skies, and soft light, inviting viewers into a world that feels both dreamy and grounded. Whether through Riso prints or pottery, her aim is to craft pieces that bring warmth into people’s homes and foster a sense of connection with nature and the animal world.

Eva has a fondness for beautiful books, Scotland, and pigeons—elements that often find subtle ways into her creative practice..
