Riso Pop is a small risograph studio in Amsterdam run by Aafke Mertens.
Inspired by the Chinese horoscope, this edition invites you to explore the theme Fire Horse through illustration or design. We’re inviting artists, illustrators, designers and print lovers of all levels to create a (fire) horse artwork that will become part of a collaborative Riso-printed zine. From all submissions, 20 artworks will be selected for the final publication and exhibition at our Amsterdam studio.hours.
Create an illustration or design featuring a (fire) horse.
Your interpretation is completely open, as long as it follows the guidelines:
A5 format, landscape
Horse facing to the right
Limited colour palette: Yellow, Fluo Pink, Burgundy & Medium Blue
Artwork prepared for Riso printing
A full colour reference of your image (for us to also check your files!)
The full technical guidelines, including tips for analogue and digital workflows, are available in our downloadable handout below.

Funding & Sales:
This project is entirely self-funded. We cover materials and printing costs through the sale of prints and zines, and hope the event brings new audiences to Riso Pop.
Once submissions close, we’ll review all entries and notify selected artists by email. Selected participants will also receive a personal invitation to the exhibition and zine launch.
